This one's for my mama. I have the privilege of being able to pick up the phone and talk to my mother whenever I want. And the older I get, the more I realize what a blessing that is. Of course, I've been around for a little while, so I remember the old touchtone phone with the mile long cord that could magically stretch to just about any room in the house. And call waiting? Really, what was the point of that? I don't remember ever clicking the button to see who was trying to interrupt my very important marathon phone call with a friend. And maps. Oh yes, I remember well the long road trips in the family station wagon with the wood panels. I used to sit up front between my parents. My mother would unfold the entire map on her lap while helping my dad navigate. I remember peeking over the edge of the Rand McNally to wonder at all the places unknown. I still love maps and I'm sure my mother does too.
