Water

In the past week, I have found myself gravitating towards the image of water in my paintings. It's not like water is a stranger to my paintings, but lately I feel particularly drawn to it. What does water mean to you? For me, water represents journeys and destinations still unknown. For many years when I was younger, I always felt like a fish out of water trying to find my place on the land. That's the reason why I have fish roaming the landscape in so many of my paintings; it's a self-portrait of sorts. There is so much freedom and possibility in that roaming.
A couple of days ago when I started a new painting of a goldfish in a fish bowl, I realized that it's the first time I have ever not had myself roaming around free and unfettered in the landscape. It was a long winter this year. Spring is officially here but not really here yet. I've been feeling confined in the fish bowl. I'm ready for sun, warm weather, and some exploration.
